Couple Recreates Family Wedding at Palos Verdes Golf Club
Sydney and Phil held their wedding at the same Palos Verdes Golf Club where her parents celebrated thirty years prior, featuring a sage green and white

Sydney and Phil married at the Palos Verdes Golf Club. The venue was the same location where Sydney's parents held their wedding reception three decades earlier. Waverly Coleman Events orchestrated the day with a classic and timeless aesthetic. The couple's nephew carried the identical ring bearer pillow used in her parents' ceremony, creating a direct link between the generations.
"Both Phil and I gravitate toward a more traditional, classic aesthetic, so the overall décor stayed fairly timeless - elegant, refined, and understated rather than trendy," said Sydney. The planner noted the design aimed to reflect both families' sophisticated nature. The goal was to let the couple's love shine by incorporating outdoor elements while keeping the look clean.
The Sage Green Palette
Sage green served as the foundational color for the wedding design. Sydney explained the choice felt timeless and classic. She wanted an abundance of white florals paired with greenery. The soft sage shade allowed all elements to blend together seamlessly. The color appeared in the bridesmaids' dresses and was echoed throughout the décor.
The floral design was a top priority. Good Floral Co provided an abundance of white blooms and greenery. These arrangements lined the edges of the dance floor to enhance the formal feel. The palette focused heavily on whites and greens to maintain this sophisticated atmosphere.
Design Details and Textures
Textured linens added depth to the classic design. The team selected a patterned linen from BBJ La Tavola, a Little Black Book vendor. This choice provided visual interest while staying within the refined, understated theme. The overall effect was elegant and intentional, avoiding any trendy or overdone elements.
Honoring Tradition
Several details paid homage to family and cultural traditions. The reuse of the ring bearer pillow was a key full-circle moment. Another significant tradition involved a handmade broom. One of Sydney's sorority sisters crafted it for the couple to use in a "jumping the broom" ceremony.
"One of my sorority sisters handmade a broom for us to jump the broom, which was a very special and intentional way to honor tradition and culture," Sydney noted. This act provided a personal and meaningful layer to the celebration.
The Final Touches
Mayer's Bakery created a four-tiered all-white wedding cake. It provided a sweet conclusion to the menu. Photographer Francesca Maria documented every moment, including these detailed touches. The entire event, from the sage green palette to the inherited pillow, wove family history into a new beginning.
