Kim, a 52-year-old set decorator, married writer Danny at Agreco Farms in Crete, Greece, in April. The couple, working with planner Bobbie of Sand + Lace Events, designed a spiritual ceremony focused on guest participation, prayer, and intention setting.

Kim's Greek heritage and Danny's Irish background were woven into the day through a Greek band and Irish bagpipe music. The couple's creative professions influenced their detailed approach to the celebration, where every color, flower, and crystal was chosen for its personal meaning.

The Venue and Date

The couple chose Agreco Farms in Crete for two reasons. They had been charmed by a wedding they witnessed on a Greek island two years prior. Later, Kim had a dream about getting married on a small farm in Crete. She proposed April 16th, the 20th anniversary of the day they met, and Danny agreed immediately. The venue had the date available.

The Four-Dress Journey

Kim's search for a wedding dress led her to acquire four different gowns. She described the unique path to finding the outfits in which she felt authentically herself.

Dress NumberOrigin & Details
1Purchased with family but later felt too traditional, "like a princess."
2A design from a Uruguayan designer was requested but had uncertain timing.
3A friend in the film industry, Jen, agreed to make a dress inspired by Dress #2.
4Her mother's original wedding dress, reimagined and worn for a ceremony back in the U.S.

The Uruguayan designer's dress (Dress #2) did arrive, just two days before the trip to Greece. Kim wore Jimmy Choo shoes and her mother's wedding earrings. Evy Papadopoulos did her hair and makeup. Danny wore a velvet tuxedo from The Suit Shop in Boston.

The Spiritual Ceremony

As a first-time bride at 52, Kim had initial reservations about traditions like walking down an aisle. Her perspective shifted, and she became grateful to have her father accompany her. She walked to a recording of 'The Skye Boat Song' on bagpipes, a tribute to Danny's Irish roots.

Danny's sister, Karen, officiated the symbolic ceremony in Greece. A legal ceremony followed weeks later in their back garden in the United States, officiated by Kim's godmother with only nine guests.

The spiritual ceremony invited deep guest participation. Attendees wrote wishes or prayers to place in a handmade box. A table held candles and crystals, with more crystals arranged around the ceremony space. Kim's maid of honor had hand-selected and shipped three large boxes of crystals to Greece, and each guest took one home.

Kim revealed she had set a secret intention six months before the wedding. She hoped every guest drawn to the event would find love in some form-for themselves, in their partner, or in their life's vision. The celebration concluded with a feast at one long table for all guests.
