A wedding at the Ocean Course on Kiawah Island required decisions on design, fashion, and catering to create a coastal, golf-themed celebration. The couple, Katy and Louis, planned their event for Masters weekend, blending country club elegance with the relaxed island setting.

Design and Vision Timeline

The initial planning phase centered on defining a cohesive vision. Katy and Louis wanted a weekend that felt "effortlessly coastal, deeply personal, and reflective of their love for golf." This required booking a venue with ocean views and planning a design that embraced the soft spring colors of the landscape. The central reception element was a sailcloth tent overlooking the water, layered with woven textures and natural wood finishes by Snyder Event Rentals and Light it Up.

Fashion and Attire Decisions

Selecting attire involved choosing versatile pieces that suited different parts of the day. Katy's gown from Madison Row South was a key decision, offering two looks. She wore it with a bolero for the ceremony and cocktail hour before switching to a strapless style for portraits and dancing. Her bridesmaids wore a mix-and-match collection of blue and white patterned gowns to complement the coastal palette. A custom needlepoint purse featuring an alligator, a nod to Kiawah Island, was another personal detail finalized during planning.

Food, Drink, and Dessert Selection

Finalizing the menu and bar required choices that reflected both Southern tradition and the couple's personalities. The catering featured classic Lowcountry stations. Signature cocktails needed to be chosen: an Old Fashioned and a Hugo Spritz were selected for the bar. Perhaps the most distinctive decision was forgoing a traditional wedding cake. Instead, an ice cream sundae bar was booked as a sweet, interactive experience for guests. Late-night chicken biscuits paired with mini Miller High Lifes were also planned as a final snack.

Incorporating Personal Activities

The timeline included scheduling events that reflected the couple's shared interests. Because the wedding was held on a Friday during Masters weekend, a putting competition was organized for the cocktail hour. This allowed guests to engage with the couple's love of golf. Planning also extended to the wider weekend, starting with a Lowcountry oyster roast for the welcome event. The Friday wedding date was specifically chosen so the couple could attend the final round of the Masters together on Sunday.

Floral design, handled by Fresh Weddings Charleston, featured airy white blooms and soft greenery to maintain an organic feel. Rebecca Sigety Photography captured the day. Every detail, from the sailcloth tent to the sundae bar, was intentionally selected to complement the coastal landscape while creating a personal and memorable experience for all attendees.
